Nutley Sons Honor Roll - Remembering the Men Who Paid for Our Freedom

Biographies of the more than 130 Nutley sons who died while in service to our country.

NUTLEY, N.J. -- In the past century, 138 Nutley sons died while in service to our country. 

One soldier was killed in the American War of Independence.
Three were killed in action in the Civil War.
World War I took 17. 
World War II took 92 sons. 
The Korean War era took 12 sons. 
The Vietnam War took 9 sons.
Preserving the peace during the Cold War set its toll at 8 Nutley sons. 

Here, in one source, beyond the names of the fallen, are their stories.

Memorial Day schedule Monday May 28, 2012

Mayor Alphonse Petracco, the Board of Commissioners, and the Veterans Council announce the schedule for the 93rd Annual Memorial Day Parade to take place on Monday, May 28, 2012 at 11 am. After a brief opening ceremony in the Oval, the parade will step off onto Chestnut Street, up to Passaic Avenue, across Passaic to Centre Street, Centre Street to Franklin Avenue, where it will continue past the reviewing stand located on the steps of John Walker Middle School.

Mayor Petracco says, “I encourage everyone to take some time on this Memorial Day holiday to pause and remember our fallen heroes, and the sacrifices they made to keep our country “the land of the free” as assembled by our forefathers. The price of that freedom has never, and nor will it ever, be free. Our brave soldiers and their families pay the ultimate price, but will forever be remembered as the backbone of what makes our great country the “home of the brave.”

Prior to the parade, visits will be made to the various memorials located throughout the Township. The schedule is as follows.

7:30 AM Assemble at the American Legion Post, Franklin Ave.
8:00 AM Services at Post 70 – American Legion

8:25 AM Services at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Washington Ave.
8:40 AM Services at the Methodist Cemetery – Park Ave/Passaic Ave.
8:50 AM American Legion Services at the WWI Boulder, Vreeland Ave.
9:00 AM Services at the Cemetery, Franklin Reformed Church, Church St.
9:30 AM Services at the All Wars Memorial (Memorial Park), Chestnut St.
9:40 AM Catholic War Veterans at the Korean Conflict Boulder Township Hall
9:55 AM Veterans Council Services at Vietnam Memorial - Township Hall
10:05 AM Peace Time Memorial Dedication – Vincent Place
